PERSONAL STATEMENT

Welcome!
Hi, I’m Abigail Klauer, a passionate and detail-driven designer with a B.S. in Creative and Technical Design and a minor in Entrepreneurship from Iowa State University, now based in Brooklyn, NY.
My fashion journey began during quarantine in 2020, when I taught myself how to sew and embroider, a hobby that fundamentally shifted my creative direction and ultimately changed my graduation plans. What started as a self-initiated exploration quickly became a deep commitment to design, craftsmanship, and problem-solving through garments. Since then, I have immersed myself in multiple areas of the fashion industry, gaining hands-on experience across technical construction, concept development, and merchandising strategy.
I am a curious and self-motivated designer who values thoughtful storytelling and precision, believing that fabric choice, silhouette, and finishing details are powerful tools for expressing emotion, identity, and intent. Inspired by nature, travel, and the nuances of human behavior, I aim to design work that balances function with feeling.
After graduating, I moved to New York without a role secured, driven by determination, clarity in my goals, and a strong vision for where I wanted to grow as a designer. I approach my work with adaptability, initiative, and a strong willingness to learn, always striving to create intentional, innovative, and meaningful designs.
